Everybody knows those big stone heads.
You know, the ones with the massive noses? Moai are stone statues of human figures carved by the local people on Easter Island in eastern Polynesia between the 1250s and 1500s. The statues are on the slope of a volcano.
The famous carvings are massive, though the heads we see today are only a small part of the original, whole statue. The whole statue is massive, they can be up to 40 feet tall and 75 tons in weight.
Scientists have finally discovered what the heads’ meanings are. They are placed where they are because the heads are near water sources, perhaps they were to guide people to the rivers. This is very exciting as scientists and historians have been pondering over these chunks of stone for centuries.
