It is called “the Fatberg”. In the London sewers, workers recently found piles and piles of rubbish. But how did it get there? And what do we have to do about it?
The London sewers have been filled with rubbish because some people have been putting things like nappies, kitchen roll and other things down the toilet or pouring fat down the sink which blocks it. That is why the tonnes of awful dirt has been named the Fatberg in media. This disgusting Fatberg is 50 meters long and 26 tonnes of oils, fat, wet wipes and nappies. London Thames Water engineers have been trying to remove it. According to Mr Saunders, sewer network manager at Thames Water, a Fatberg smells like rotten meat mixed with odour of a smelly toilet.
To stop another Fatberg from building up again here are a three tips:
1. Pour used oils such as fat into a container then into the bin.
2. Put plasters, nappies and things that block the toilet in the bin.
3. Only flush poo, wee and toilet paper down the toilet.
