The British one pound coin is going to expire very soon and then you won’t be able to spend it. After the 15th of October, the round one pound will not legally be a coin any more and it will be replaced by the 12-sided new coin.
On October 15th when it turns midnight, the old pound coin will expire. But don’t worry if you can’t spend it before the deadline – then you can trade it at the bank. The new pound coin is similar to the £2 coin, however the new pound coin doesn’t have a curved edge..
Instead, it is 12-sided and looks shinier than the old pound coin, with two different coloured metals. The new one has been created because a lot of fake versions of the old pound coin were being made – 45 million pieces, according to Royal Mint that makes money. They also made it because we needed a change and a fresh new £1 coin.
Where do you still have coins lurking? Piggy banks, pockets, behind sofa cushions and in bags are common places where coins get stuck. You’d better have a look and use them before it is too late.
