The second week of November is anti-bullying week. In primary schools, pupils learn about bullying, and large organizations get engaged too.
The Church of England has been taking part in anti-bullying week and a priest has made a speech saying that boys should be able to try out wearing things like tutus, and girls should be able to wear boys clothes – and should not get bullied for it.
What is bullying? And why are people bullies?
Bullying is when someone is being mean to someone else and doing it every day, or constantly being mean. The bully will sometimes have a reason why they are acting like a bully. These reasons could be that they themselves have been bullied before, or that something is going on with there family. But even if there is a reason, it does not mean what they’re doing is right.
3 tips on what to do if you are getting bullied:
- Tell a trusted adult (teacher, teacher assistant etc.) so that they can help you.
- Show the bullies that your not sad or scared.
- Walk away and ignore the people who are being mean to you.
The main thing to remember.
The bully wants you to be sad or unhappy. Show them that your not and then you might have beaten the meanness! But also don’t forget to talk to an adult, even if it feels tricky. Committing suicide is the wrong way to react (and it is also very rare). There is always a way of making things better. Remember that some celebrities were badly bullied and even if life feels very tough right now, you might be a celebrity one day!
