Do you dream of meeting your favourite author? Or learn how to become a writer yourself? The Barnes Children’s Literature Festival has come and gone and left an imprint on Barnes as the #1 dedicated children’s literature festival is London.
The Children’s Literature Festival included FANTABULOUS authors such as Jacqueline Wilson, Lauren Childs, Morris Glitzman, Michael Morpurgo and Robin Stevens. The Barnes Bookshop and the OSO (the Old Sorting Office) joined in on the fun, selling books and food. In addition, a flower-crown tent was letting children make and wear gorgeous flower-crowns. The green was alive those two days, with children playing, teenagers gossiping and adults drinking coffee.
‘The Barnes Children’s Literature Festival is a wonderful way to encourage reading- a lovely way to spend your weekend!’ says Emily, a Year Six student, my fellow reporter and a fervent reader.
The organization of a big event like this is demanding. “I’ve just started planning for next year” says Amanda Brettargh, Australian mother of two, who organizes the festival.
Only a year ago, the Barnes Children’s Literature Festival came with a crash to Barnes and enticed over 2,000 people to come and see their favorite authors in workshops and readings. You couldn’t miss it this year either; they had a amazing saxophone group playing on the roundabout and filling Barnes with jazzy music.
Thank you for reading.
