Last Saturday, several well-known authors of children’s books were gathered right at the footsteps of Newsnuggets. The first ever Barnes Kids Literature Festival had invited them to share their writing, their life-stories and their inspiration with their readers – the children of Barnes and beyond. Many of Newsnuggets’ reporters were there to soak up the atmosphere in the different venues around the pond, where the authors met with their audiences. We will be sharing our experiences with you soon. Until then, read our review below of a book written by one of the authors who were here on Saturday: Peter Torday.
The Best-Selling novel by the author Piers Torday, The Last Wild, has been followed up by the equally exciting book The Dark Wild.
In The Dark Wild, twelve-year old Kester Janes is back with another fun-filled, action-packed, death-defying adventure. In a world where animals no longer exist, twelve-year-old Kester Jaynes sometimes feels like he hardly exists either. Locked away in a home for troubled children, he’s told there’s something wrong with him. So when he meets a flock of talking pigeons and a bossy cockroach, Kester thinks he’s finally gone a bit mad. But the animals have something to say. And they need him!
In our opinion, Piers Torday reminds of the genius of maybe the most famous British children’s author, Roald Dahl. Fun blended with danger and suspense is what I think makes this book a must read for people aged 10-13.
