A few weeks ago the Labour party called for a re-election of its leader. Many of his party colleagues did not want him to run the party and challenged him to step down. However, Corbyn won the leadership again against the opponent Owen Smith. But before Corbyn and his party can take on the Tories in a general election campaign, he needs to “heal” his own party after a summer with a lot of ugly in-fighting.
What is it all about, fighting within a party? Don’t parties agree internally on what is best for the country? More often than not, there are tensions within a party (all of them!) Because every party tries to woo as many voters as possible, they also need to include different opinions. The Labour party is most commonly referred to as the left side of the political spectrum but his party is beginning to split since Corbyn is more left but others are closer to the Tory party’s view. Jeremy Corbyn is working hard to make sure his MP’s stay with the beliefs of this party.
One of the main questions is; what has Corbyn done to help this party? Well, he hasn’t exactly been healing his party, has he? In fact, he made a reshuffle and he put people in charge who think like him. As a result of this, he has been criticized. Alan Johnson has accused Corbyn not to be up to his job as Labour leader. Some people may be agreeing.
