Opinion: Children have to live with the consequences, so give us the vote!
We think children above 7 years old should be able to vote in the same way as adults. One reason is that most adults do not like change, so questions like “should we stay in the EU?” will be answered with yes if only adults vote. Children are more prepared to try out new things
Not many children at 8, 9 and 10 know about who their parents vote for in the elections, and why. It is understandable not to know about the EU at the age of 6 but not at 8,9 or 10. If children are properly educated about politics, they should be allowed to vote.
Also, children have to live with with the consequences of decisions that we make today. A 70-year old person – who gets to vote – will not be around that much longer, but we who will be there cannot make our voices heard.
