Trump is not going to visit Britain any time soon and the suspicion is that it is because he is worried that he will be mass protests against him. That would not be good for his image.
His excuse, however, when he explained why he would not come and open the new American embassy in London, was that he doesn’t like that Barak Obama agreed to sell the current (very centrally located) embassy for ‘peanuts ‘ (very little money). Donald Trump used to work with properties before he became a president so he thinks he knows what a building is worth. He also said that the new embassy is ugly. Many people have pointed out that it is unusual for a president to critisize his own diplomats this way. His embassy complaints have been described as ‘CNN-politics’, meaning that he wants to give people one idea about something that is actually about something else.
Also, Trump would very much want his trip to the UK to be a formal “state visit”. This would mean that he got a chance to meet the Queen and get other special honours. But she does not seem as keen. (Although, we cannot be sure exactly who decides what between the royals and the government).
