Things are not looking good for tennis,or Serena Williams.
Wimbledon chairman Philip Brook said Serena Williams’ meltdown in the U.S. Open final was ‘not a good look for tennis’ though he insists it would never happen at the All England Club.
Serena was convinced that sexism was the cause of her loss to Naomi Osaka in New York, where she directed remarkable fury towards chair umpire Carlos Ramos. The 37-year-old American tennis superstar claimed women are treated differently to men after she received a series of strikes at a match.
Seeking a 24th grand slam, Williams was initially outraged at receiving a scalding for coaching, insisting she had not taken guidance from her coach. She then picked up a point penalty for racquet abuse before shouting at Ramos, resulting in a game being docked for verbal abuse. She called the umpire a “thief” and a “liar.”
Apparently, sexism isn’t the only bad experience Serena has faced, from mocking her opening up about her experience of motherhood, to criticism of her behavior following her US Open defeat last month.
Many people say the reaction to her behaviour has been notably sexist, with some referring to her as a ‘spoilt brat’ and ‘classless’.
