Turkey’s infrastructure has grown over the last ten years and so has the economy. However, there are increasing problems with Turkey’s security. A Kurdish terrorist group (that wants Kurds to be acknowledged as a different group of people with their own language, own government and many other things) are bombing Turkey. And since some time, the Islamist organization IS has also added to the violence.
Citizens’ fears are growing stronger as the group of people repeatedly bomb places around Turkey. The latest bomb was at Besiktas football stadium (Istanbul) killing 44 people. And more recently, a terrible shooting took place in a popular night club, killing 39 people.
In 2014 Turkey was the 5th most popular tourist destination and is home to 10 world heritage sites including the Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque. Unfortunately, due to the increasing number of both Kurdish and Islamic State attacks, the tourists who once flowed through Turkey has reduced. This means bad news for the Turkish economy as it has to find other sources of income.
The most famous Turk is Mustafa Kemal commonly known as Ataturk ‘father of the Turks’. He modernised Turkey and introduced European styles. He turned it into a secular country, improved the infrastructure, reformed the Turkish language and modernised many more things. Some people think that after what Erdogan (Turkish President) has done to the country he is like the new Ataturk.
